Krull (1983) Reviews

Krull (1983)
Member Rating:
Meant to be a whimsical sword-and-sorcery film about a prince out to save his princess from the jaws of the Beast, Krull has enough scenes borrowed from blockbuster predecessors (Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T., Robin Hood, Star Wars) and is gentle enough to be rather derivative, ordinary fare. Prince Colwyn (Ken Marshall) has inherited a kingdom under siege by the evil Beast, and not only has to rid the land of the monster, but he has to rescue his bride Lyssa (Lysette Anthony) from the Beast's clutches as well. In his magical land, horses can sometimes fly, medieval castles can harbor weapons that light up, and before he can defeat the Beast, the prince has to get his hands on the glaive (French for "double-edged sword"), a razor-sharp, magical weapon capable of killing the monster. One of the more notable aspects of Krull is that a 30-year old Liam Neeson plays the bit part of Kegan, in only his third full-length feature film. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

I first saw this as a kid and just recently watched it again. I am going to rent it again to show friends. A good science fiction with all elements of a good entertaining story! Just keep in mind it was made in the 80s :-)

Even though the critics were tough on KRULL, this is a very good movie for it's genre of sci-fi/fantasy. It has a good story line, with a very good cast as well. The directing and special effects are pretty good for the time this was made (mid 1980's - CGI really hadn't been mastered yet except with LUCAS films). The musical score is actually very good and the story line won't disappoint, even if a little predictable at times. Worth watching in my opinion.

Well made action movie. Seemed a little thin to begin with, but as it progressed it became more interesting.

A cool sci-fi fantasy flick from back in the day. Every kid wanted that throwing star after seeing this movie!

This was fun then and is fun now, and I still would take a glaive over a lightsaber.

I loved this movie when I was younger even though now CGI is better but all in all it still has great storyline and good acting.. this movie made me fall in love with fantasy movies

This movie was OK. Not great and certainly not as good as The Lord of the Rings. If anything, you get to see a young Robbie Coltrane and a young (and future Oscar winner) Liam Neeson in supporting roles. It was certainly better than Dungeons and Dragons movie (granted, that isn't saying much.)

Wow this is a bad movie. Really bad. It's not as if they had a good concept, and executed it poorly. It was a bad concept, incredibly poorly executed. The acting is terrible, and the script did not make sense. It's amazing that any adults were willing to attach their names to this project.

My stepdad paid money so that we could watch this movie together - ya know, "Dad and Sons go to the movies". I blame this movie for some of my adult issues ... haha! The basic plot synopsis is this: "hey, an evil space fiend is dominating our world. Let's traipse all over the world meeting an interesting ally or two, find the legendary weapon that becomes useless when we need it most, and defeat the villain with the Flamethrower of LOVE!! Oh, darling!!!". Insipidness without laughter. I could maybe watch this again if the snacks were good and it was playing in the background, but I sure would not want to have to actually SIT THROUGH it.
