Anne Frank was an ordinary girl forced by circumstances to bear witness to the most extraordinary tragedy of the 20th century, and the diary she left behind became one of the best known and most affecting documents of those who struggled to survive the Holocaust under Nazi occupation during World War II. Anne Frank is a four-hour television miniseries that retells the well-known story of the Frank family as they hid from Nazi occupation forces in an attic in Amsterdam between 1942 and 1944, but it also takes a look at the life Anne and her family led before the pogrom swept through Germany and Holland, as well as the harrowing details of the grim fate that awaited the Franks in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Hannah Taylor Gordon stars as Anne Frank, with Ben Kingsley as her father Otto, Jessica Manley as her sister Margot, Brenda Blethyn as Auguste Van Pels, and Lily Taylor as Miep Gies; the real-life Miep Gies, one of the Frank family's benefactors, served as a consultant to the producers of this project. Anne Frank (also advertised as Anne Frank: The Whole Story) was first aired by the ABC television network on May 20 and May 21, 2001. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

This movie is hard to watch, but necessary. I showed this film to my teenage children, although we fast-forwared through some of the concentration camp scenes (brief nudity). The actors do a fabulous job, and the actress who plays Anne is top notch.

This movie is probably the best Anne Frank movie available and is true to the book. Well acted and what is unique to the movie is that it lets us see the tragic ending to the Frank family after capture.

This is a very good movie about a very important issue! I would suggest that parents watch with younger and more sensitive teens. It's a distrubing movie, as it should be.

That's what this movie is: an experience. The acting is prestige. The editing early in the movie was like a BBC film, but after that it was fine. It should be noted this is NOT based on the diary, and contains none of the dialoge fans of the diary and earlier movies are used to. This is based on the Anne Frank biography, and as such, takes us beyond her end. We see what happens to nearly everyone involved with the Annex, from outside eyes. This was well thought out, and very well made.

When I finished this gripping film, I wanted to reread Anne's diary ASAP. What a cinematic testimonial to the courage of Anne, those who hid with her, and other loyal friends. All cast members were marvelous, especially Hannah Taylor-Gordon, Ben Kingsley, and Lili Taylor. The film follows them right to the end. If you're ever in Amsterdam, be sure to visit the Anne Frank House.

Excellent movie. Even when you know how it will end, you still keep rooting and hoping for the best. While Anne was a teen, she was not typical. Anyone who thinks this Nazi atrocity did not happen should visit the camps, look at photos and reflect.
