Kill Me Again (1989)
Member Rating:
In his film debut, novice director John Dahl (who would later make The Last Seduction), weaves a quirky tale of love, murder and deception. Jack Andrews (Val Kilmer), a seedy private detective is hired by Fay Forrester (Joanne Whalley-Kilmer), to help her fake her own death in a clever scheme to escape from her mob pursuers, whom she double-crossed stealing money she had been sent to pick up, and are now intent on killing her. There then ensues a series of complicated plot-twists, double-crosses and surprises as Fay and Jack race each other to escape the mobsters, who have found them, and to get the money before the other does. ~ Linda Rasmussen, Rovi

...enough twists and turns of plot to stay interesting throughout.

The half-star is only awarded because director/co-writer John Dahl would later go on to much better things ("Red Rock West", "Last Seduction" et al...) but this film is incredibly predictable; and with her utterly flat performance, it is easy to see why Joanne Whaley has fallen off the radar completely. Val Kilmer is in his smug, bland, "Look-at-me...I'm Acting!" mode here and shows none of the chops that are on display in some of his better performances and although Val and Joanne are/were married they have about as much chemistry as a wet dishrag. Only a pre-"Reservoir Dogs" Michael Madsen is respectable here, though he's only on screen for less than a third of the film and his Edward Scisorhands hairdo is unintentionally laughable. Skip It!

This movie wasn't bad. It has good actors and the story line isn't bad. The backend of the movie seemed to be lacking. When it ended I was just hoping for more. It's worth a rent.

This is a good move. And worthy a see. Good Acting. And a few fun twist.

In 1989 I might have enjoyed this movie. Michael Madsen, Joanne Whalley, and Val Kilmer all look great in this movie, but it's really just a silly, underdeveloped thriller. The idea wasn't bad, but it was poorly written and not nearly as suspenseful and interesting as it should have been.

Mixed feelings about this movie. Part of the ending I loved, part not so good. Val Kilmer is always good.

This was only an OK movie. The ending was not expected but I wouldn't watch it again.

Re-hashed noir. It seems as if they went with the 1st draft of the script. Definitely could have used some polishing before they began shooting. There were three or four scenes where the writer eluded to some new twist but then didn't follow through with it. Watchable, but don't expect much.
