At War With the Army (1950)
Member Rating:
Though At War With the Army was the third film appearance of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, it was the team's first starring vehicle. A pattern is set herein for all the Martin-Lewis flicks to follow: Martin plays a self-assured romeo, forever bursting into song, while Lewis is a hopeless screw-up unable to perform the simplest task without wreaking havoc (in this one, he can't even operate a Coke machine properly). Mike Kellin repeats his Broadway role as M&L's tough topkick while Polly Bergen makes a very brief appearance. Because it has lapsed into public domain, At War with the Army is one of the most available of the Martin and Lewis films. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Jerry Lewis was hysterically funny in this movie, as he usually is, and Dean Martin was his usual debonair self. The duo made the movie very fun to watch, and I can't wait to watch another one of their movies!! Brought back great memories of my childhood.

Few people today would enjoy this old movie. It is silly, but nonetheless interesting in that its the very early Martin and Lewis ...which is history.

Dated, silly drivel . . . a few laughs. Strictly for Martin and Lewis diehards.

No wonder I never heard of this Martin/Lewis movie. It was BORING!! I was looking forward to seeing the typical Martin/Lewis comedy, which I Usually enjoy. I was very disappointed to say the least. The acting was bad and the story line left a lot to be desired.

This seems to be trasfered straight from the origional negative with no restoration process involved anywhere. I love Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis is certainly a talent - but, this movie I think has just past it's time. When thsi movie came out they were playing the Paramount to audiances of 8,000 people 5 shows a day fro 5 straight days with 500,000 fans in the street out front. The Mayor stopped by to ask them to stop throwing things from the window and stop singing and waving (six floors up) that the police were having too much trouble controling the crowd. With that image of their fame and love....I watched this movie wondering....were they really laughing throughout this whole movie?

I just never understood the Jerry Lewis phenomenon. He is obnoxious and not funny at all. There are a few laughs here and there, but not near enough laughs. For fans of the stars only.
