A Jumpin' Night in the Garden of Eden (1987)
Member Rating:
This documentary covers the revival of Yiddish dance band music know as klezmer. For centuries, the music was an important part of the entertainment of European Jews. Turkish, Baltic, and gypsy influences were all added to create the freewheeling, improvisational style. Americans Henry Sapoznik and Hankus Netsky are the accomplished musicians who rediscover their musical roots and heritage with the study and performance of the music. Their bands The Klezmer Conservatory Band and Kapelye reflect the reverence for the ethnic folk music that sparked the revival and renewed interest in the musical genre. ~ Dan Pavlides, Rovi
