Joseph Andrews (1977)
Member Rating:
Tony Richardson attempts to re-create the glory days of Tom Jones in this adaptation of the 1742 Henry Fielding novel. Peter Firth stars in this picaresque tale as Joseph Andrews, a young servant switched at birth who undergoes a series of romantic escapades. Joseph even has the fortune of becoming the personal footman to Lady Booby (Ann-Margaret). Joseph's romantic peccadilloes cause consternation among a collection of stuffy noblemen and women in 18th-century England. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

This very stylized '70s movie has held up over time (except Ann Margaret's English accent is still dreadful). It's meant to be a morality farce and is quite amusing and worth watching. All the dire warnings about it being an "adult" film are kind of outdated considering that the movie shows breasts, bums and penises very briefly, and for comedic effect.

Jerry H. Gorgeous costumes scenery and sets. The cinamatography was spectacular. All of the above was wasted on an idiotic farce.

A poor attempt at a Tom Jones type movie. Ann Margaret's fails to show any ability to act. Nice face, but that's it.
