Greek mythology is done up brown by the special-effects expertise of Ray Harryhausen in Jason and the Argonauts. Jason (Todd Armstrong), rightful heir to the throne of Thessaly, is spared from death through the intervention of the goddess Hera (Honor Blackman). The other celestial inhabitants of Mount Olympus watch in amusement as Hera surreptitiously aids Jason in his search for the Golden Fleece. Obstacles to this goal include a giant come-to-life statue named Talos, the screeching harpies plaguing blind prophet Phineas (Patrick Troughton), a set of huge clashing rocks, the seven-headed hydra, and an army of skeletons (this bravura climactic sequence assured Harryhausen's place in the hearts of 13-year-old boys of all ages). Supporting characters include Nancy Kovack as a pre-infanticide Medea and Nigel Green as a pacifistic Hercules. Bernard Herrmann's surging musical score was icing on the cake for this greatest of all Ray Harryhausen creations. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

While this older special effects movie doesn't have the glitz and flash of Star Wars, it is a classic none-the-less. Some of Ray Harryhausens' best work. A must see for any science-fiction, adventure movie fan.

My favorite, of all the Ray Harryhausen movies - - I love the fighting skeletons ! Harryhausen was SO above his time with special effects !

Very good for old time special effects. Good version of the titans/greek gods and their toying with man. Very entertaining.

Boring, boring, boring, unless you are really into mythology.

It can't get better than this. Its odd that I find the special effects of this movie more appealing than most of what you see now. If you liked clash of titans (the 80s), then you will love this movie as well.

Instead of sending me the movie from 1963 described above they sent instead the recent hallmark remake from 2000 that I have seen on tv and didnt really like. Be careful if you choose this movie that they dont do the same thing to you.

Did the same thing to me. Sent the 2000 version not the original 1963 version. Should have read other review 1st. Although the sleeve said 1963 it was the newer one. Will try to get this straightened out.
