Love and betrayal complicate a robbery gone wrong in this offbeat crime thriller shot in Argentina. Angel (Eduardo Noriega) and El Nene (Leonardo Sbaraglia) are a pair of small-time criminals hired to take part in the robbery of an armored truck organized by mobsters Nando (Carlos Roffe) and Fontana (Ricardo Bartis), who working in cahoots with the driver, El Cuervo (Pablo Echarri). Angel and El Nene are also lovers, and when the robbery goes sour and Angel is shot by the police, El Nene is enraged and opens fire on the officers, turning the heist into a bloodbath. Angel and El Nene somehow escape and go into hiding, with El Nene attempting to nurse Angel back to health. As the couple tries to avoid detection in Uruguay, El Cuervo's moll, Vivi (Dolores Fonzi), tells the police of their whereabouts under threat of torture. Meanwhile, beginning to crack under cabin fever, Angel and El Nene slip into town to visit a carnival, where El Nene's head is unexpectedly turned by Giselle (Leticia Bredice), sparking murderous jealousy in Angel. Plata Quemada was adapted from a novel by Ricardo Piglia, which was inspired by a true story. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

This flick held my interest and had me on the edge of my seat during the last half. Angel and Nene were a strange couple, Angel was literally crazy and Nene loved him, unconditionally, in spite of that. They truly were "the twins". They were bank robbers and murderers but in the end, I was rooting for THEM. This was one of the best films that I have seen in a long time!

The director and actors really pull you into this world of insanity and love in this reenactment of a 1965 crime. Taking place in Argentina and Uraguay, the film is nearly completely in Spanish (it's an Argentinian film to begin with) which makes it all the more authentic (I say this because there is nothing like watching a Hollywood movie with everyone speaking in English even though they are in Nepal or something). This movie stays with you after you've watched it. The performances by Eduardo Noriega and Leonardo Sbaraglia are so believable that you are drawn into their relationship. Would have been 5 stars however there are a few scenes - even though they add to the atmosphere of the film - could have been trimmed some - however the payoff at the end is not what you'd expect - it becomes of blockbuster proportions... worth the character building all the way along.

I thought that this was a very good movie. The relationship between Angel and Nene was sexy and provocative from beginning to end. Although Angel had a problem, he never stopped loving and caring about Nene. They were part of each other until the end.

This is one of the best movies I have seen from Argentina. Burnt money is a romantic thriller. All the actors have done a great job and the movie keeps you on your toes at all times.... you just never know whats going to happen next! It is based on a true story and I have realized that you don't need to be gay to enjoy a good gay movie...you just need to have an open mind!

Based upon a true story, a very hot "Ronnie and Clyde" blast their way from Argentina to Uruguay in 1965. At once disturbing, smoldering and beautiful on multiple levels, this film is a serious, dispassionate yet powerful portrayal of love splayed upon the crucibles of jealousy, sociopathology and schizophrenia -- and of course robbery and murder, etc. The last half hour is unforgettable.

Exciting and full of suspense. A movie with gay characters like you've never seen gay characters before. Great performance and a true story make for a winner. The final scenes are packed full of action and craziness.

Great acting, great story line, very natural approach to love scenes (won't let me use 3-letter word beginning with "S" and ending with "X", but lots of gratuitous violence. The movie dragged for much of the time. TOOOOO long in their hide-out in Montevideo. Refreshingly un-Hollywood film with full nudism, homosexuality and noir type feel, but lost my interest about half way through
