An exploration of human survival and the ability of fate to alter even the tidiest of lives with one major event, Cast Away tells the story of Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks), a Federal Express engineer who devotes most of his life to his troubleshooting job. His girlfriend Kelly (Helen Hunt) is often neglected by his dedication to work, and his compulsive personality suggests a conflicted man. But on Christmas Eve, Chuck proposes marriage to Kelly right before embarking on a large assignment. On the assignment, a plane crash strands Chuck on a remote island, and his fast-paced life is slowed to a crawl, as he is miles removed from any human contact. Finding solace only in a volleyball that he befriends, Chuck must now learn to endure the emotional and physical stress of his new life, unsure of when he may return to the civilization he knew before. Cast Away reunites star Hanks with director Robert Zemeckis, their first film together since 1994's Oscar-winning Forrest Gump. ~ Jason Clark, Rovi

So many of Hanks' movies are "the new classics" it kind of make you think maybe he's a fantastic actor or something! The movie itself gets five of five stars. The blu-ray transfer looks fantastic - just beautiful. And the audio is top-notch. The extras are a little disappointing. There is a commentary with Robert Zemeckis and a number of the crew (mostly the sound design and special effects people). Very interesting commentary. But that's pretty much all there is. There is a "trivia track" subtitle, but the trivia is pretty lame. Either already covered in the commentary or is stuff from outside the movie like "Tom Hanks won back-to-back Oscars for Philadelphia and Forrest Gump." Nice, but not really movie specific. And that's it for the blu-ray extras! Well, the DVD extras were about the same. Who cares? Just enjoy the movie again. :)

Tom Hanks is such a wonderful actor. As a one man show on this with his best friend, Wilson, he is incredible. Never a dull moment and certainly not boring. Not action packed of course because he is one man on an island with his ball, Wilson, trying to survive. That takes great skill and Tom Hanks pulls it off with his acting. Left me in tears. LOVED IT!

Great story for an unexpected situation. Survival is the name of the game.

I love movies that deal with the topic of survival and I love Tom Hanks as an actor so this movie is a double win. Tom Hanks does an amazing job and proves that he can literally do a movie all by himself and it'll be great. There is not a lot of big effects or suspence in this film, but it's not about all that, its about one mans will to survive. This is an amazing movie and its something not only worth renting, its a great addition to anyone who is a Tom Hanks fan,

The scenes of Tom Hanks stranded on a desert island are the best part of this movie, the rest is pretty gooey. Once off the island, Hanks has a hard time readjusting to real life. It's sad. The only way he can make love to Helen Hunt is if she dresses up like a volleyball. Three stars.

This is undoubtedly one of the best films I have seen. Tom Hanks is staggering and captivating and I've seen this movie at least four times. I know I will see it again. It is a superior accomplishment. I just love this movie. You will too!!!!

Certainly not my favorite Tom Hanks movie but it was a good movie. The ending - well, I didn't like the ending. After all this guy has been through it just didn't seems fair. Too bad Wilson wasn't still around to make the ending better...
