There were fine aspects to this film; the sounds and scenes of Africa, the history of Roosevelt, the father/son and other male bonding, and rite of passage for a thoughtful young man. Myself a visitor to wilderness Africa I tried to maintain an open mind to the hunter's perspective but this film failed to convince or persuade me. The logic of culling the "trophy animal", the largest male from the herd, fails me as these are the strongest and best genetic stock for the herd. True the young man killed a rogue male, cast out from the herd because of age, it does not seem like sport when man is armed with a rifle. I did not like the master/servant roles of the African men butchering and cleaning, baiting,cooking, and carrying while the wealthy whites imagined they were skilled, rugged fellows. They only came across as arrogant and selfish.
