Gary (Ray Winstone) is a former gangster who has made a modest amount of money from his criminal career. Happy to put his life of crime behind him, he has retired with his wife Deedee (Amanda Redman) to the sunny bliss of rural Spain, where he lives an idyllic life with his family and a few close friends. But Gary's contentment is ruptured by an unwelcome visitor from his past -- Don (Ben Kingsley), a former associate who has been hired to assemble a team of criminals to rob a heavily guarded bank. Don wants Gary in on the job, and is less than pleased by Gary's unwillingness to volunteer his services. What ensues is a battle of wills between the two men, with Don intimidating, prodding, and manipulating his onetime friend to get what he wants, forever changing the lives of those around him in the process. ~ Rebecca Flint Marx, Rovi
A slick, stylish thriller. Overall, the film does seem to fall short of the mark in some respects. However, Ben Kingsley's performance is so good and believable that it takes the film to another level.
I will watch anything with Ian McShane or Ben Kingsley in it, and this movie has both. While it does tend to lull from time to time, there are enough surprises and excellent acting to make it more than worth while viewing.
"Schismatic" not cinematic. Each actor had some great moments and Ben Kingsley did a great job as a psychopath. However, the movie jumped from one scene to another. It was a little bit like watching a TV series that spliced all the episodes together. It was almost as disappointing as 44 Inch Chest.
The movie was a waste of time for me; it did not live up to the rave. It was slow to start but it never really took off. It appears that the beast was the Ben Kingsley character, however it was not well developed. You kept waiting for something to happen. The movie was timid. It was a waste of talent in Ben Kingsley and Ian McShane, the two reason why I wanted to see the movie. It was a let down!
This was easily the biggest waste of 88 minutes I have endured in some time. Movie really had no plot other than an egomaniac yelling profusely at a character unwilling to really stand up for himself. Very disappointing movie based on a cast I otherwise usually enjoy.
