The In-Laws (1979) Reviews

The In-Laws (1979)
Member Rating:
Dentist Sheldon Kornpett (Alan Arkin) is a respectable man. He has a daughter who is about to marry the son of a very suspicious character, Vince Ricardo (Peter Falk). They are practically relatives already, the wedding is so near. Certainly, Sheldon already despises Vince as if he were already a well-known relative. Nontheless, Vince calls on Sheldon and convinces him to go with him on a series of wild and hilarious adventures, claiming all the while that he is a CIA agent, and that what he is doing is in the national interest. Sheldon follows Vince to a South American country ruled by a very odd man, General Garcia (Richard Libertini), who talks to his hand (which talks back). It seems that the dictator is involved in a scheme to counterfeit and undermine U.S. currency. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

Glory and Dean L? Their beautiful daughter is going to marry my son this Sunday! Yes! Serpentines set aside, hands in the air, this is the best movie ever made, exclamation point! Yet -- the real issue here is whether this coffee is freeze-dried, btw? It's very good. Who loves reverse syntax as much as I do? God forbid you see Crossing Delancey for that!

This is a cute movie and funnier, I think, than the remake with michael douglas. This has a wry humor. The best line is "There's nothing but money in here!"

This movie made me laugh out loud years ago, and it still does now. I never noticed that Alan Arkin was such a handsome man before. The combination of him with Peter Falk was priceless. Boy, but were the wedding gowns ugly back then!

A GREAT RIDE !!! Alan Arkin plays SUCH a great role of a nice dentist, who cannot say "no" to his new looney tune In-Law, Peter Falk - who plays a neurotic but sweet CIA guy, with loads of "issues" !! I wish they still made comedy movies like THIS ONE !!

One of my favorite comedies and it is so much funnier and better all than the remake with Michael Douglas. There are so many halarious scenes but I guess my favorite is the one with "serpentine, serpentine".

i was too young to appreciate Columbo, but my first exposure to these two great actors was watching this movie on HBO when I was in the single digits. Matthew Perry supposedly based his portrayal in "The Whole Nine Yards" on Arkin's Sheldon Kornpett. Rent this now. You will not regret it.

Hilarious from start to finish! Peter Falk and Alan Arkin were wonderful in this film, I just wish that they had made more movies together. Also it was a terrific script, everything worked in this classic comedy, don't miss it!

My husband and I saw this when it first came out. It is still just as funny as it was then. We totally enjoyed watching it again after all these years.

Ok, both of these actors are always great ... and they are both great in this movie as well; but, this version has been eclipsed by the remake with Michael Douglas and Albert Brooks.
