Holocaust (1978)
Member Rating:
The now-legendary miniseries Holocaust first aired as a presentation in NBC's Big Event series. Written by Gerald Green, the story begins in the Germany of 1935. We are introduced to the family of Jewish doctor Joseph Weiss (Fritz Weaver) his wife Berta (Rosemary Harris), his brother Moses (Sam Wanamaker), his sons Rudi (Joseph Bottoms) and Karl (James Woods), and his daughter Anna (Blanche Baker). We also meet struggling lawyer Erik Dorf (Michael Moriarity), who is urged by his ambitious wife to join the SS. As the Nazis' persecution of the Jews is stepped up, most of the Weiss family is deported to the Polish ghetto--then to Auschwitz, which is overseen by Erik Dorf. Rudi and his Jewish girlfriend Helena (Tovah Feldsuh) witness the 1941 Baba Yar massacre, then join the Russian partisans in their battle against the Nazis. Also appearing in Holocaust is Meryl Streep as Karl Weiss' Christian wife Inga. The winner of eight Emmy awards, Holocaust was originally telecast in four parts on April 16, 17, 18, and 19, 1978. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

This movie really serves as a reminder as to what these people went thru. Even my kids watched the movie with me and they really had a lot of questions. I would recommend this movie to anyone who wants to educate their children or themselves.

very sad movie. It reminds of the tragedies the jewish people endured and it is amazing any survived. Hard to imagine so many Germans were so hateful during this time. Also, I cannot believe how many other contries allowed the takeover and slotter of Jews, Like Poland. A true dad time in history.

Its a movie families should watch to let their children see the struggles different cultures had to undertake to survive as a culture in this evil world.

Message is good! Those were the days. Graphic violence is veracious. I recommend seeing this production. This number included the Warsaw Uprising and the Sorbibor breakout. Message is quite clear.

Wow, best performances ever by James Woods and Meryl Streep. Ending seemed a little abreviated, could have had more story line there. But great story, well told. Nobody should go through life without knowing about the holocost and the murder of nearly 8 million jews.

It is a good show to remind us of the past, but no body ever got dirty, the hair was always perfect, it didn't show the sickness and cruelty of the camps at all. Maybe it is good for kids because its not so grafic. I was rather bored.
