At the end of Highlander, Juan Ramirez (Sean Connery) died and Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) was rendered mortal. "Highlander 2: The Quickening begins in 1999 when Connor solves the problem of an ever-depleting ozone layer on the earth by devising a giant shield around the entire planet. The earth is saved, except for the fact that it is now a continual 99 degrees, and the earth is plunged into 24 hours of darkness. 40 years later, Connor is an elderly man with liver spots, heading out for the opera. Then there is a flashback of Connor recalling his halcyon days on the planet Zeist hundreds of years earlier. Back on Zeist, Connor and Ramirez led a futile coup against the ruling dictator, Katana (Michael Ironside), that caused them to be banished to Earth. Back in the future, Katana sends a pair of wacky goons to kill Connor. When Connor lops off their heads, he is now young again...and immortal. Just the right time to meet the attractive scientist Louise Marcus (Virginia Madsen), who has discovered that the shield around the earth is no longer needed since the ozone layer has repaired itself. But, unfortunately, the shield is in the clutches of an evil cartel who wants to control the earth's resources. Connor and Louise team up to battle the cartel while Katana sends out more emissaries to get Connor. Ramirez, although supposedly dead, also makes an appearance in the 21st century -- garbed in full Scottish regalia. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

Possibly the worst movie I have ever seen. Horrendously directed, edited, acted, and written. How was this movie made? Why? Why did Sean Connery accept the role? The story goes nowhere.. we find out Highlander is from another planet. Guys are dispatched into the future to kill Highlander, who then reverts BACK to immortal.. what happened to the girlfriend from the 1st one? The ozone is thought to be gone, etc.. Why does a guy, for no reason, hijack a subway? The creatures with glasses attack the Highlander in the future, cackling like witches and the editing skips during all those scenes. What in the world was going on with the studio that made this movie? ABSOLUTELY THE WORST MOVIE WE HAVE EVER SEEN. Worse than "A Man and his Dog" with Don Johnson.

This one movie single handedly ruined every Highlander movie and even the series. Not because it's a bad movie, but rather because the story completely negates the first movie, the 3rd movie, the 4th movie, etc, and the series. By the way the series has nothing to do with the movies really either but it's better than any of the movies. So they take an immortal war, say the people in the first actually knew each other on an alien planet, bring people back that died in the first add a character from the series just for fun, add campy acting, the fact that Conner can build a shield around the earth, and make a sequel from a movie that ended with all the immortals dead and Conner human just to see if it can be done. This movie is a complete waste of film. And why is Sean Connery decked out in scottish garb? Isn't Juan Ramirez a spanish name?

The first Highlander movie is a must see. This one will only make you angry. I remember walking out of the theater on this. Don't waste your time even renting this, just watch the first one again instead.

Don't rent it. Just say it never was made. So bad that they should recall all copys and burn them.

quite possibly the worst sci-fi movie ever made, i am amazed that sean connery's career survived this film. i can't believe that after seeing this film, someone actually said "lets make a TV series out of this"

The Renegade Version redeems what would otherwise be the worst Highlander film to date. That is saying a lot considering how awful Highlander: The Source was. The difference would be a no star vs. 1/2 star movie. If you do watch this film only settle for the Renegade Version or "Special Edition". Any other version will leave you sadly wishing for 2 hours of your life back, and that includes the Blu-ray version.

The FIRST HLander was da bomb. Loved that flick to death. One of the many I've purchased over the years. This mutt made me hurl. A flee bitten dog that gave me a serious case of bobble head. Terribly disappointed given the first HLander. Don't buy, rent or even borrow this frisbee!
