Hellfighters (1968)
Member Rating:
Chance Buckman (John Wayne) heads a team of international trouble shooters who travel around the world to put out oil fires. The dangerous profession has taken a toll on the marriage between Chance and Madelyn (Vera Miles), who leaves when she can no longer endure the stress of saying goodbye and fearing she will never see him again. With his faithful assistant Greg (Jim Hutton), the team is ready at a moments notice to race anywhere to extinguish the flames of oil fires raging out of control. Greg eventually falls for Chance's daughter, Tish (Katherine Ross), who shares her mother's concern over the dangers the men endure. Hellfighters received technical advising from famed oil-well fighter Red Adair and his assistants who provided excellent and credible information for the film and the pyrotechnic team headed by legendary special-effects expert Fred Knoth. ~ Dan Pavlides, Rovi

What can you say about John Wayne that hasn't already been said? He's just incredible and his movies rule. HellFighters is a real achievement in movie making. For 1968, the special effects are incredible. You can nearly feel the heat coming through the screen from the enormously dangerous fires. As if massive fires and explosions weren't dangerous enough, you also get a real sense of the other dangers involved with the job of oil well fire fighter like Poison wells & snipers. John Wayne is his normal macho self. The movie is both exciting and funny. Great Movie.

We received the DVD as stated we would. The video was in good shape, and we enjoyed it thuroughly. They don;t make movies as they did 20-40 years ago. There is more of background and story to the movies. I like to blockbuster rental system very well. I wish I would have started earlier.

Another Great John Wayne Classic. This was a outstanding movie about Red Adair and his company as they fought the tough oil well fires and blow outs. A movie that is great to watch over and over again - it gives an inside look at a very tough profession and captures the grit and determination of some truely great men.

This is a great movie starring John Wayne and Katherine Ross. It is a Biography that doesn't seem as dull or boring as others, and seems to flow smoother as a movie than as a book.

This is one of my favorite John Wane Movies, lots of action, but still a good wholesome family movie. Very well done considering it was made in 1968.

Excellant film for the time it was made. Tells the true story, (The producers had to make it a bit more exciting for our viewing), of Red Adair and his group of oil well fire fighters. Most of the fires are re-makes of what Red and his crews really fought.

I must be honest; the first time I saw this movie. I had no idea this profession existed. I was glued to the screen for the entire show. Well, it has been 20 years since I first saw this and I have no problem pulling out my personal copy and enjoying it again. John Wayne is great and the characters (A++ to Jim Sutton) feed off each other very well. I recommend this movie to all. It is a good time to watch.
