The Hanoi Hilton (1987)
Member Rating:
Lionel Chetwynd's film documents the horrific struggles that faced American POWs held in the North Vietnamese prison Hoa Lo -- more infamously known as the Hanoi Hilton -- between 1964 and 1975. Williamson (Michael Moriarty) leads a group of American servicemen who are prisoners at the detention camp. He assumes command after Cathcart (Lawrence Pressman) is dragged off to be tortured. ~ Dan Pavlides, Rovi

I can see how the media was on the North Vietnams side. I seen this movie a while back, and decided to watch it again. Senator McCain was in that hell hole. He sacrificed a lot.

Based on actual characters and events, Hanoi Hilton documents the imprisonment of U.S. pilots shot down during the Vietnam war. The heroic struggle of these servicemen under the control of their savage and brutal Vietnamese captors is one of the many unsung battles fought by American servicemen during The Vietnam War.

I really enjoyed the historical parts of the movie that brought to life the stories we heard during the war.

A difficult movie to watch, mainly because of the way the POWs were treated. This is a rare film in that it depicts accurately the way things actually were in the Vietnam conflict. Overall a very good film. North Vietnam considered the American press and American media their best friends and allies. Indeed they were, for if it had not been for them we would have won that war. This film depicts the way the American media and the Communists manipulated certain prisoners and spread propaganda however they could. Also depicts how the North broadcast their propaganda through loudspeakers to the prisoners, in order to break them. Incidentally, their propaganda through loudspeakers continues to this day, broadcasting now to the citizens of Vietnam.
