In this World War II action thriller, American reconnaissance agents learn that a German submarine is sinking. The doomed ship carries an Enigma Machine, a special coding device that allows high-level Axis forces to send messages that can't be read without a similar encryption mechanism. Obtaining a working Enigma device would be invaluable for the Allied war effort, so a U.S. sub is sent out to rescue the machine. However, German forces have already picked up the sub's distress signal and are en route to rescue their comrades. U-571 features a distinguished cast, including Matthew McConaughey, Bill Paxton, Harvey Keitel, and Jon Bon Jovi. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

I admit there were things that seemed unrealistic, but as far as the suspense and intensity level, it was great. there wasn't a boring moment.

I am normally not a fan of war movies but this is the exception! Riviting, smartly done, enough suspence to make you hold your breath!

I loved this movie ! Best submarine movie after "Below". The acting in this movie is great, makes you feel like you are in the middle of the war against the Nazi.

This well acted drama based loosely on the exploits of several crews pivotal in obtaining intelligence in WWII is very good.

Where does one movie director finds a cast to play a role where actor/actors must speak faster than a person that just came out of the coma and not playing a characters that supposed to have a speech pathology. Pure Hollywood for a an average American viewers. But most of the people never read the books or know nothing about the stories so some movies like this one may fly. One half of a star.
