In the last and the best installment of his so-called "Dollars" trilogy of Sergio Leone-directed "spaghetti westerns," Clint Eastwood reprised the role of a taciturn, enigmatic loner. Here he searches for a cache of stolen gold against rivals the Bad (Lee Van Cleef), a ruthless bounty hunter, and the Ugly (Eli Wallach), a Mexican bandit. Though dubbed "the Good," Eastwood's character is not much better than his opponents -- he is just smarter and shoots faster. The film's title reveals its ironic attitude toward the canonized heroes of the classical western. "The real West was the world of violence, fear, and brutal instincts," claimed Leone. "In pursuit of profit there is no such thing as good and evil, generosity or deviousness; everything depends on chance, and not the best wins but the luckiest." Immensely entertaining and beautifully shot in Techniscope by Tonino Delli Colli, the movie is a virtually definitive "spaghetti western," rivaled only by Leone's own Once Upon a Time in the West (1968). The main musical theme by Ennio Morricone hit #1 on the British pop charts. Originally released in Italy at 177 minutes, the movie was later cut for its international release. ~ Yuri German, Rovi

I loved this Italian movie about the American west, because of it's down right grittiness. This movie is a dirty version of a John Ford movie and dirt is what was real in the American west. The spaghetti western turn the tables on what the west truely was Gritty and Grimmie. Must see.

This is my favorite movie of all time (also quentin tarantinos favorite for the record). The ultimate archetype of a western, and what all movies should aspire to. The good guy is a little bad, the bad guy is a little good, and well, the ugly is everything in between. The gunfights are about as good as any you'll ever see even including modern day westerns, and I dare you not to love the final classic 3 way duel as you clench the sides of your chair wondering who's going to live and who's gonna get it. The plot is absolutely awesome and as original as you can get. If you haven't seen this one before what are you waiting for!?!?

overall a very well-done western a smart fascinating storyline great acting some excellent action and the characters were very unique and they were brought together well. the story kept itself going very well and there was alot of very well-done moments lines and action sequences as a whole an exciting powerful well-filmed western 9/10 recommended for those who like leone eastwood or enjoyed a fistful of dollars and a few dollars more.

The classic western and the beginning of Clint Eastwood's career. The Bad is eliminated. The Ugly is given a fresh start and the Good rides off into the sunset.

This is what all westerns are measured by. Well, maybe Outlaw Josey Wales is on the same scale.

I am not a western fan, but am trying to get into the genre. After loving 3:10 to Yuma, I decided to make this my second western. I loved the story/plot. The long introductions for each character reminded me so much of Tarantino movies (I guess its the other way around!). Eastwood is great as is the character Tuco. This movie definitely makes me want to see other films in this genre.

I've got to agree with Donna; this was a pretty bad movie. They could have cut an hour out of it and it would have been pretty good. Some scenes were so drawn out that I could skip 10-20 seconds and not missed anything.

This western was one of clints greatests movies. There is for sure a lot of great acting and the 5.1 with my sub woofer blew me up in my living room. All the extras on this also make this a good choice to rent and to watch.I might sound biased but I think clint eastwood really has made very few bad movies. he knows how to play that role of the tough guy that a lot of guys like myself enjoy seeing. as far as that lady is concerned and saying that this was a boring movie, you need to stay away from these movies. Donna you should really be renting martha stewart or thelma & louise or some other lame titles, because thats the type of person you are. This is a movie that caters to everyone but especially men. peace

Great movie. A classic. Only problems are with some historical accuracies. I could watch this anytime. Donna must be a fan of the Pink Cadillac Clint Eastwooed. If your not into "Old" westerns, spaghetti westerns especially, you won't enjoy this. If you are, a CLASSIC movie.
