In this independent drama, a young man tries to find himself in the early 1970s as he wades through a swamp of heroin addiction. FH (Billy Crudup) is a well-intentioned but weak-willed man whose propensity for messing up his life has earned him his nickname, short for "F--khead." FH's problems with drugs begin in earnest when he falls in love with Michelle (Samantha Morton), a beautiful but emotionally unsettled woman addicted to heroin. FH soon finds himself drawn to the needle, and the couple drifts from one incident to the next, some funny and some horrifying. Michelle rescues FH from overdoses on a few occasions, although their friend Wayne (Denis Leary) isn't so lucky. After a few years, Michelle becomes pregnant and has an abortion in Chicago shortly before leaving FH and journeying to Mexico. While heading South in hopes of finding her, FH falls into a relationship with an older woman, Mira (Holly Hunter), and becomes involved in an auto wreck; his brush with death, and the opportunity to save a child's life, lead him into rehab and a chance to straighten out his life. The American debut from New Zealand director Alison Maclean and based on the novel by Denis Johnson, Jesus' Son also features Dennis Hopper, Will Patton, and Jack Black. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

A very entertaining film about drug addiction and recovery with great performances...not your typical mainstream film which makes it all the better...its funny , weird and thoughtful...just like life.

WOW, I love this flick! It has every element of emotion and excitement that explode at just the right moments. Its a shame that movies like this that took a great deal of heart and creativity to create don't get the publicity they deserve and some hokey Pocahontas rip off (AVATAR) makes billions, literally.

A nice representation of Denis Johnson's incredible book of stories, this movie stays true to the seedy themes, witty but sad humor, and general design of the book. Crudup is good in his role as are Denis Leary and Jack Black. Not for everyone, but I appreciated seeing a movie that focused less on the shocking aspect of drug use and more on character interaction that exists due to the lifestyle. Streches on for a bit too long, but the first hour is truly excellent.

This film was one long strange trip, sometimes disturbing, sometimes funny, often sad journey of a young man in the early 70s trying to shake his drug addiction and find purpose in this world to do so. Not a perfect script, but still good performances by all involved. Nice performance by Billy Crudup and Samantha Morton and Jack Black made it all the better.

This movie should have had the title F-Head as used in the movie instead of using our Lord's name in vain! I can't understand how it got a 3+ star rating unless it was more of a documentary used to scare our teens out of using drugs to begin with...
