In this supernatural thriller, Tom Witzky (Kevin Bacon) is a fairly typical working-class guy living in Chicago with his wife Maggie (Kathryn Erbe) and his son Jake (Zachary David Cope). One night at a party, Tom gets into a lively discussion with his sister-in-law, Lisa (Illeana Douglas), who believes in psychic communication and the power of hypnosis. He challenges Lisa to hypnotize him, and she plants in him a post-hypnotic suggestion to be more open-minded. But the results aren't quite what Lisa or Tom expected; Tom now senses an air of terrible dread throughout his house and is convinced that evil lurks just around the corner. He also sees the spirit of a girl from the neighborhood who disappeared months ago -- and Jake sees the spirit as well. Stir of Echoes was based on a novel by Richard Matheson, whose work inspired such disparate films as Somewhere in Time and The Incredible Shrinking Man; it was written and directed by David Koepp, who wrote the screenplays for Jurassic Park and Mission: Impossible. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
This was a really great story, the acting was wonderful and thestoryline was really intriguing. I love the little boy in the movie, he had a handle on his gift and understood that there were not many like him. I would watch this movie again.
The original "Sixth Sense" styled movie, Bacon did an excellent job of showing how a sudden shift of perspective can rock your world. It was part mystery and part drama, with some good character interplay. In a way, you wish there were more character roles in the film, but the focus on Bacon's character is meant to emphasize the isolation that he feels after discovering this new (unwanted) ability. The tone is just right for the dark subject, and the pace is about right also.
This was an alright movie. It came out around the time of The Sixth Sense, which I ended up seeing first. So, I wasn't entirely as impressed with this movie as I probably could have been. Kevin Bacon did do a great job in this movie though. I still think it was a good suspensful movie, just a little predictable. I still recommend seeing this movie though, it is still a good watch.
Great flick! I got creeped out before the movie even started (at the main menu) and almost turned it off, but so glad I didn't. It's a fantastic thriller and Kevin Bacon was awesome.
I thought this movie was much better then i thought. I recommend it to anyone, and to those who don't like it is probably because you did not understand it. I loved it .Hope their is a second part and i think their will be :)
It is very rare to see a really good ghost movie but i am telling you this is worth a rent. I think it is a stronger movie than its predecessor Sixth Sense and Kevin Bacon may have out done Bruce Willis. I found the beginning of the movie to be very tense and disturbing but towards the end it let down and gave us clues to how the ending will come and its hard to tell what will follow up. Not much credit goes to this movie which it should get.
