Science fiction blends with domestic horror in this thriller. Spencer Armacost (Johnny Depp) is an astronaut on a routine mission in space when something goes horribly wrong and it looks as if he's doomed. However, Spencer is rescued at the last moment and returns to earth a hero. He soon announces that he's retiring from space exploration to spend more time with his wife Jillian (Charlize Theron). Jillian has suffered from depression in the past and would like to start a family, so she's initially thrilled with Spencer's decision. Jillian soon finds herself pregnant, but she starts to notice something odd about her husband, as if the man who returned isn't quite the same person who went away. As her pregnancy advances, Jillian's anxieties increase, but has something really happened to Spencer, or have Jillian's old demons merely resurfaced? The Astronaut's Wife marked the directorial debut of Rand Ravich, who previously penned screenplays for such films as The Maker and Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

This movie was big on suspense rather than special effects. The astronaut's wife character was weak but was well played. Johnny Depp did a good job going from all american good guy to monster.

Johnny Depp plays the part of a "preppy" clean cut astronaut sprisingly well - in fact I found his portrayal of Spencer Armacost - after he came back from his space flight - a lot creepier than his actual creepy characters because he was so "normal" but not really. Charlize was excellant in the roll of Depp's wife. Good Si-Fi story, very suspensful. Holds your interest until the end. You do not know what actually is going to happen until you see it at the very end.

At first I thought it bit off of Rosemary's baby (LARGE) but then I realized it was actually bit of a homage to it. Some of the same exact lines were incorporated, the short blonde hair on Charlize that Mia had, even the same exact costumes on Charlize that was on Mia in several scenes - and the ring on Johnny's finger in this appears in Rosemary as well. I liked this. Liked the use of color and light and sound. Trippy and cool. Not perfect - but enjoyable for me - perhaps not for all (or even most)..it's get's my big "farrr out!!"

Could have been better...much better. Acting was good but the storyline just lacked. Entertaining, yes. Just not one that you'll want to watch time and again.

The movie is ok during the second half as far as any mystery or suspense. The ENTIRE first half and a good percentage of the second half is nothing but Lifetime Channel (women's crying, whining, sadness, emotions, feelings, relationship problems, kissing, girl talk, pregnant women, kids, etc.) long drawn out boring soap opera scenes. I guess it is called Astronaut's Wife for a reason but they should have just scrapped the few sci-fi scenes and then described it on the box as about NOTHING but the lives of astronauts wives and their sisters and girlfriends. Was very hard to sit through the whole film and then only by constantly fast forwarding.

Should have been a lot better. With Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron anything would be worth watching but this film just seemed to go nowhere. I watched the last 45 minutes at fast forward speed to keep it going. Nothing was ever fully explained and the ending just came abruptly - like it was quitting time and we had to wrap this thing up - with no real conclusion.

I give it 2 stars. One for the flick and an additional one because we get to look at Charlize Theron for an hour and a half. The premise was stupid and the ending not only awkward but silly.

I saw this movie several years ago and thought it was a very decent movie. Since that time the feature has been edited and CG added to the point of ridiculousness. I'm ashamed I suggested it.

This movie is predictable. Supposedly Charlize Theron's character had mental issues that were supposed to be another possible alternative to the alien invasion but there's not enough development of that to really make that possibility. Disappointing and the ending is terrible.
