Jean-Claude Van Damme returns as cybernetic warrior Luc Deveraux in this sequel to the 1992 action hit. After barely surviving his experiences as a part-human/part-robot Universal Soldier, Luc has opted to stay out of the front lines and work with a military project to refine and perfect the system. However, something goes wrong (as they so often do in films like this), and S.E.T.H. (Michael Jai White), the android supercomputer leading the new breed of soldiers, suddenly develops a murderous mind of his own. Soon S.E.T.H. is leading his fellow war machines on a rampage, and Luc is the only one who can stop them. The supporting cast includes Heidi Schanz and wrestling star Bill Goldberg. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
This movie was better than the first Universal Soldier, but not by an extreme amount. It was more action packed and I liked that they used Michael Jai White as the the voice of S.E.T.H. and the Ultimate Soldier. Great fight scene at the end with Jean-Claude and White. I did see 2 flaws with this movie though. 1) Why didn't anyone shoot the soldiers in the head? It would have destroyed the brain along with the chip implant, hence rendering the soldier incapable. And then 2) Why didn't they drop a bomb that had a small EMP blast, that would have shut down all the computers in that area and S.E.T.H. would have been destroyed. But then again, I guess that would have made the movie to short and not as good. Other than that, it is a decent watch. Be warned though, it is another movie about a computer that changes it's program to stop it's own demise. If you liked the first one, you will probably like this one.
The Army Rangers were poorly represented in this movie, to say the least. You have to toss reality to the side and just enjoy the action sequences. Would not watch it again. BTW, the tough educated woman that hates the military and questions authority routine is getting sooo old.
Cheap knock-off of the slightly better original movie. It makes even less sense and is more implausible than the first installment. This movie does have its share of entertaining fights and explosions, as well as special effects and sets so bad they're funny. The acting, especially from the supporting cast, is breathtakingly bad. But that makes the movie a little funnier, if that's what you're looking for.
UniSol 1 and 2 were both entertaining. Acceptable acting on everyone's part except the general (give him a "1"). Van Damme still performed well even 7 years after the original. BTW, the next movie, Regeneration, brings back Dolph Lundgren. Good action scenes.
