In this tense tale of psychological terror, Dr. Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis) is a child psychologist whose new patient has a problem far outside his usual area of expertise. Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment) is six-years-old and claims to see the spirits of dead people all around him. It seems that Cole has psychic powers and can channel the ghosts of those who were troubled. Cole doesn't understand his powers, and he has little control over them; he's constantly terrified by what he sees, and Dr. Crowe is the only one with whom he feels he can share this secret. However, as the doctor digs deeper into Cole's strange powers, it leads to strange and unexpected consequences for both of them. M. Night Shyamalan, who wrote and directed the film, has a small role as Dr. Hill. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
Haley Joel Osment deserved the Oscar for his performance in this movie. It is excellent. Even Bruce Willis' acting here is good. It's a great movie. A must see. (Michael Caine is a good actor, with a great body of work over the years, but the movie he was in that year and won the Oscar for - just wasn't as good a movie or a role.
i tried to watch this movie before but couldnt get interested in it. so i thought it was gonna suck again. i watched it last night since there was nothing else on tv, and i watched it till the end, and it was really good. the end was a real surprise, left me with my mouth open wide.
I was amazed by this movie; it moved me to tears at parts, and at others it scared me. The realism of this movie gives it an effect that no amount of special effects can reproduce. Hands down one of my favorite movies of all time.
Not a fan of the director, as most of his movies are stinkers (see Unbreakable or as I call it Unwatchable). This was a really well done thriller/horror flick. There was no gore for gores sake and it was a well thought out plot and one of the greatest surprise ending EVER. Most people would agree, that they were totally surprised at the ending which does not happen much to often anymore. Highly recommended viewing.
I thought this was a really great movie! I loved the twist ending :D I thought that inbetween the scenes was a little... long? You could see the blackness for about 3 seconds. If that dosent make sense... lol. It's worth renting to see Night's first horror movie on the bonus section alone! I love Hayley, anyway. You could tell he was younger when he did this vs. Pay it Forward. But still, I highly reccomend!
Hands down the creepiest movie I've ever seen. I lost count of the spine-tingles the first time I saw it and the ending made my heart stop. Absolutely STOP! Then I couldn't get it off my mind for days, weeks even. And my 11-year-old niece had the nerve recently to tell me it wasn't scary at all. So how should I dispose of her body? Just kidding! LOL But that brings up an interesting point---this movie is probably a lot scarier (more disturbing) to adults than to kids because there are no monsters, no overt special effects, and no over-the-top acting, just true-to-life realism turned inside out.
