Get Smart, Again! (1989)
Member Rating:
The second feature-length revival of the Get Smart television series (1965-1970) of blessed memory, Get Smart Again reunited Don Adams as bumbling secret agent Maxwell Smart and Barbara Feldon as his wife, sultry "fellow" agent 99. Smart coerces 99 to drop her public-sector job and join him in thwarting the evil machinations of their old nemesis Siegfried (Bernie Kopell). Other alumni from the original TV series include Dick Gautier as Hymie the Robot, Robert Karvelas (Don Adams' cousin) as Larrabee, King Moody as Starker and Dave Ketchum as the ubiquitous Agent 13. A few concessions have been made to the passage of time (Smart's fabled shoe-phone now has "call waiting"), but the film scores highest on its nostalgic appeal, encapsulated by such catch-phrases as "Sorry about that", "Would you believe?" and "Missed it by that much." Get Smart, Again was first telecast February 26 (would you believe February 27?), 1989. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Great movie just like the old shows. It was very funny and had a great plot. The DVD does not play if you use a Playstation 2 as the DVD player

True to the spirit of the original TV series but not the same. Find the originals and stick with them.

it was Get Smart, a bit of everything I remember rolled up into one movie. It sure seems like it was all the original people and writers. The quality wasnt much better than the series so I guess it was made for TV as a reunion episode.

Virtually all of the schtick that made the show, from "would you believe?" to "missed it by that much" and many of the old - and I mean old - favorites - Hymie, Larabie, Agent 13, Siegfried, Shtarker - return for this, the 2nd reprise. There's even the reprise of the opening scene of Adams driving the car up to Control's entrance and going down the hallway, absent the getting his nose crunched (which would've been an apropos conclusion, if it could've been worked in). And, of course, the shoe phone and cone of silence. The nits: a small role for Larrabee, largely due to there being no Chief (this flick was dedicated to him, by then the late Ed Platt); no gadgets in 86/99's home, only a reference to their children; and Siegfried could have admonished Shtarker for mimicking his motorcycle and saying "Shtarker, there is not {noise of motorcycle} at Kaos." Other than that, a very good reunion show, and one can accept the aging, most noticeable with Max/Don Adams.

Worth your time to look back and enjoy. The former actors carry this off well. Missed the chief!

This big screen homage to the hit TV series is average. Maybe too much time has past; Don Adams and Barbara Feldon just don't click with their characters in this film as they did in the TV show. One key person who is missing is Edward Platt who played the Chief of Control in the TV show (he died several years before this movie was made); he was an excellent straight man for Don Adams' bumbling Maxwell Smart. Worth one viewing for fans of the series.

Both parents and kids aged 7, 11 and 13 enjoyed this movie. It had action, mystery and comedy. The kids especially enjoyed the spoofy spy gimmicks. I recommend all Get smart series and movies because they weren't laden with sexual innuendos etc. like movies are today.
