The Anderson Tapes (1971)
Member Rating:
This breathlessly paced high-tech thriller stars Sean Connery as Anderson, a career criminal who's just been released from his latest prison term. Seeking a quick financial turnover, Anderson uses mob funding to finance an ambitious robbery. With a gang of expert thieves, Anderson sets about to rob every wealthy tenant of a fancy East Side apartment building. What he doesn't know is that every move he makes is being monitored and taped by several law-enforcement agencies, who hope that Anderson will lead them to the Mob kingpins. Though the film may look like a "comment" on the Watergate break-in, The Anderson Tapes actually preceded that third-rate burglary by nearly two years. The Anderson Tapes boasts an impressive supporting cast, many of whom play wildly against type, including Alan King as an aging and infirm Mafia don. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Quincy Jones soundtrack was outstanding. The movie itself - a decent 1970's thriller. Lots of cool technology for the time. The original VHS boxart was much better than the DVD boxart. Worth a rental.

I thought this was a top notch heist film. The focus is on getting the team together and the procedure rather than slam bang action. Lumet has an interesting way of telling the story, and at times it's subtly funny. The cast includes a young Christopher Walken, a surprisingly good Alan King, and Garrett Morris pre-SNL.

Lousy movie. Plot not creative. Suspense is lacking. Don’t bother watching this one.

I am a Sean Connery fan and he is good in this role, which has a bit of a harder edge than other roles I've seen him play. It was also fun to see a very young Christopher Walken. I thought the plot was fairly strong, but the film was a bit dated. I found some of the director's cinematic techniques to be a little irritating. I was still able to enjoy the movie, but they may spoil it for other viewers.

This was a so-so movie from early in Sean Connery's acting career. I thought it disappointing. Jim D.

What I saw of it was a 'decent' movie, I think, but I fell asleep so can't write much of a review. (must have been boring)

Awful, awful movie. Worse than a "B" movie. Very, very poor acting on everyone's part! Sorry we wasted our time watching it. It was so awful it got to the laughable point!!
