The Garbage Pail Kids Movie (1987) Reviews

The Garbage Pail Kids Movie (1987)
Member Rating:
Sometimes kids like to do things to gross out or shock their parents. This is only natural, but many companies exploit this tendency by creating toys to appeal to that childish joy in the disgusting. In the late '80s, a new kind of bubblegum card, the Garbage Pail kids, featuring caricature paintings, of ugly, unclean moppets with yukky names such as Greaser Greg and Valerie Vomit, Windy Winston, and Foul Phil, each with an offensive habit, found popularity. This hastily-assembled live-action film-- billing itself as a children's comedy-- was hastily assembled to capitalize on that popularity. Featuring midgets dressed up as the bubblegum card characters, it is the story of an antique collector and his assistant who find a mysterious garbage can from outer-space. The assistant ignores his boss's stern orders not to open the can and frees the Garbage Pail Kids. Now the two must somehow get the raunchy rugrats back into the can before they gross-out the world. Appalled parents found the film, even the very idea of it, so offensive that they launched a nation-wide protest that resulted in its withdrawal from circulation. You've been warned. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

It took me back to my childhood. I remember it being better as a child and my children watched it and loved it! Not a bad flick, it'll take you back in time.

As i was growing up i would have to say this was the best movie ever. I loved it and now my kids love it. The kids in this movie might do some wrong and nasty things but all kids do and you cant say they dont. I would say this is a good movie for kids to watch. Its very entertaining and kids will love it.

I grew up with collecting these and thought I had to see this, however the movie is CHEESY! I did let my girls watch it because I still have the trading cards and they wanted to see it but, ya Im going with CHEESY!

Now this has got to be one of the top ranking 80's adventures of all time! If you like that ultra-cheesy, big hair, spandex pants wearing style, and those more than super-cheesy 80's montage's where it's an obviously 80's aerobics song while the characters are kicking butt getting something done, this is the movie for you. This ranks right up there with the Goonie's, only I like this better because it's a movie made about those classic little icons, the Garbage Pail Kids. I still have mine, do you have yours? If so, pull them out, show them to your kids, and watch this movie together, they're sure to love it!

Boy, did I miss out! I was, one those poor unfortunate souls. Who didn't get to see film growing up. Thou, I wish I had. Oh well? While Movie Reviewers label this film. One of thee worst movies of all time. Back in the 80's. However, I think. We have made “FAR” worst movies. Sense then. Like “Fantastic four,” “BloodRayne” and “Bewitched.” Just to think of a few of them. And I could go on with a list 56 worst movies all time."Garbage pail kids" still won’t be one of them. In fact. The only real disappointing in film. There wasn’t enough "Garbage pail kids". I say “give me more of little burgers.”I want more.Or here’s an idea for Hollywood .save my eyes. The pain of watching truly terrible. Like “Astronaut Wive”. And just remake “Garbage pail kids : the movies” Sure, it wasn’t the best film ever made. However, like “Attack of Killer Tomatoes”it’s just one of are true 80's classic. That can’t be touched

It had been nearly 20 years since I last watched this and sad thing is when I watched it again I was able to quote most parts of the movie. When I was young I watched it over and over just as my kids do now since I bought them a copy. Acting is horrible to the point where it is funny. The garbage pail kids look fake but overall are not too bad considering the extremely small budget. For kids there is something addictive about this movie.

Pretty awful. I got it because I liked the Garbage Pail Kids cards when I was a kid, but this is just weird. The Garbage Pail Kids look bizarre (and not the funny bizarre of the cards), the story is dumb, and I fell asleep trying to watch it three times.

You may think this movie is going to be awesome, a way to relive your childhood - don't do it! Stick with the cards! This movie is amazing.....ly bad!

BAD BAD BAD!!!! liked it when I was 5 and had the GPK cards my self, but when watched here recently I was mortified by how terrible it was! Acting was the lowest quality ever, clothes terrible, story was lacking one entirely, and the cheese..... oh my god the 80's cheese! This one makes night of the demon, friday the 13th, and any other terrible acting movies look like oscar winners! Dont waste your time! sERIOUSLY!! Even as a B movie fan I couldnt stand it. I thought, well, it has to have some potential.... i was wrong, and so are y ou if you are thinking the same thing. Save your self the trouble and move on.

I remember seeing this movie as a kid and loving it, I watched it again and I about fell off the couch from laughing so hard, what the hell were we thinking back then, wearing those off the wall outfits, the teased hair and lets not forget the synthesizer music. It was great, brought back a lot of good memories.
