Veteran cinematographer Santosh Sivan made his directorial debut with this fact-based Indian drama, a winner of "Best Film" and editing awards in India. Teen terrorist Malli (Ayesha Dharkar) dwells on the death of her family members who have died for the cause. A veteran of killings during 30 covert operations with a resistance group, the 19-year-old is chosen to be a "thinking bomb," assassinating a dignitary with plastic explosives strapped to her stomach. Beginning her journey to the city where the explosion is scheduled to happen, Malli moves through the jungle and arrives at the farm of friendly landowner Vasuderan, aka Mad Vasu. On the farm, she poses as an agricultural student, but the waking coma of Vasu's wife in the adjacent room is disturbing. This is a simple yet beautiful movie from the photographer turned director, santosh sivan. It follows the life of a young woman in srilanka who decides to be a suicide bomber and during her training period comes to know about a truth which puts her in a dilemma on whether to carry out the mission or not. The movie was shot on a shoestring budget in scenic locations of kerala, tamilnadu and srilanka and the photography, background music in the film are top notch. Roger ebert has listed this movie in his "Great movies" category.

I liked this movie because of the beautiful cinematography,good acting, superb direction( the best feature) sparse dialogue(unlike most hollywood and bollywood movies where actors spout nonsense nonstop)and a moving theme. It tells us about the value of life and how it is more precious than anything else. On the negative side, like in most movies with subtitles, the transaltion to english needs to be better done. A few times, the characters are saying something that is not being translated and the viewer feels cheated . All in all, worth watching.

A director has to choose between action and exceitement, or else to slowly develop the complexity of the characters involved. The Terrorist opts for a slow, complex exposition of the characters as they struggle between the nihilism of death and the affirmation of life. I felt the movie was well worth watching.

I thought the movie was extremely slow and boring. The captions were missing half the time in the first 30 minutes beyond which I decided to quit and return the movie back. The photography was slick though.
