3:10 to Yuma (1957)
Member Rating:
Desperate for money, frontier rancher Van Heflin holds outlaw Glenn Ford at gunpoint, intending to collect the $200 reward. While both men await the train to Yuma that will escort Ford to prison, the cagey outlaw offers Heflin $10,000 if he'll set Ford free. The rest of the film is a sweat-inducing cat-and-mouse game between captive and captor, interrupted with bursts of violence from both Ford's gang (commandeered by Richard Jaeckel) and the vacillating townsfolk. 3:10 to Yuma is one of the best of the character-driven "psychological" westerns of the 1950s. Its only flaw is Ford's unconvincing character turnaround towards the end. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

I rented this black and white classic prior to watching the new version that was just released. Now I doubt I will watch the 2007 release, as I highly doubt the newer version will match up to this one. This one was kept simple and honest, without the excess of special effects. Well worth watching!

I love a good western every now and then. And this one has wonderful acting, and a storyline that makes you wonder: Who is the true villan: the man committing a crime with integrity, or the man watching the crime and doing nothing. And does the universe reward good actions - regardless of how long they take to come?

This movie was awesome and much better than the remake, although I enjoyed the remake for different reasons, this original movie explained everything much better. You really understood why he was determined to make the train in this one. The remake made me wonder why. The ending on the original was awesome too and much more enjoyable.

I ordered this 1957 original however BlockBustr continues to send the 2007 remake, I would like to watch the original also, as I liked the remake.

Ok for its time, but the recent one is much better with more character development and story.

Christian Bale, Russel Crowe, and their supporting caste to depict the story of two men struggling to survive in such a way that they have recaptured the mystique for the Western frontier as a universal genre. Not only did Bale and Crowe create believable and sympathetic characters, the whole ensemble caste came alive with memorable subplots of their own. I was very impressed by Bale's son, played by Logan Lerman, who was by far the most dynamic character of the movie as he came through his right of passage to manhood.
