Fists of Fury (1971)
Member Rating:
Martial arts master Bruce Lee solidifies his standing as one of the great action stars in Fists of Fury, the story of a Chinese country boy (Lee) sent to live in Thailand with his uncle and cousins. Around his neck is a charm representing his promise to his mother not to fight, a promise which is repeatedly tested when he goes to work in the local icehouse for an abusive overseer and prejudiced natives. When some of his cousins are killed after discovering the icehouse is actually a front for a heroin-smuggling operation, Lee sets out to exact revenge and eventually has a showdown with the Japanese crimelord behind the entire scheme (Han Ying Chieh). Lee's physical gifts are undeniable; the blinding speed of his fists and feet must be seen to be believed. The film was originally released in Asia as The Big Boss. Bad guys beware when that charm comes off! ~ Jeremy Beday, Rovi

This is pound-for-pound the best of Bruce Lee's films ever made. The plot, direction and acting are all very decently executed for a Hong Kong martial arts film of its time. The fight scenes, however, are magnificent to behold and demonstrate the vast level of raw technical skill and artfully masterful execution Lee was capable of in his prime. Many of his other movies (Enter the Dragon for one...) were over-hyped and clumsy, with marring plot and acting failures due to many complicating factors, with fight scenes that were often equally pathetic (Chinese Connection), but Fists of Fury is one film the critics can never really take away from the man the Chinese know as "Little Dragon". Films like the Matrix and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and other popular contemporary films owe a huge debt to making the Chinese/Hong Kong Kung Fu film what is has been allowed thereby to become.

This is a great classic movie. Bruce Lee is still awesome 30 years later. The fight scenes were magnificent with a very good plot. If you want great action and martial arts, this is your movie.

The synopsis of this movie is correct, this is a different movie than "Fist of Fury" which is the one about Lee defending his school. However, this movie is not great. There's a lot of boring exposition before the fighting occurs, and while there are a few good scenes with clever twists, in general it's somewhat boring. If you love kung fu movies check it out, otherwise steer clear.

looks like they dubbed the wrong movie onto this disc. The title and menu says Fist of Fury, but the actual movie is Big Boss.

Although BlockBuster got the description of this one mixed up with the Chinese Connection. In Fist of Fury Bruce gets revenge for the death of his teacher, I really enjoy all of Bruce Lee's completed movies and get them all a big "Thumbs Up"
