Father Hood (1993) Reviews

Father Hood (1993)
Member Rating:
Deadbeat dads be damned. Patrick Swayze plays a con man who tries to live up to the ideals of "family values" by kidnapping his son and daughter from the evil clutches of a corrupt orphanage and taking them on a cross-country trip in his vintage convertible. To complicate matters, his daughter has been sexually molested by the head of the orphanage, who fears that she may prosecute if given the opportunity. This family drama is also a zany road movie as the re-united father and children flee the police on a quest to restore their family. ~ Laura Abraham, Rovi

Patrick Swayze plays Jack Charles who is always on the look-out for the “score” that will put him on easy street. His wife died while he was is prison and his two kids were put in foster care. When he “got out” he thought they were probably better off in foster care. His daughter Kathleen(Sabrina Lloyd) breaks out of a foster care that is abusing the kids. She hunts down her father; tells Jack about how bad the place was and that her brother, Eddie (Brian Bonsall), “just a little 7-year-old kid” is being moved to the institution that she broke out of. Kathleen convinces her father to kidnap Eddie from the foster care bus. The three start off on an adventure across country, all the while Jack keeps telling himself that he has to get rid of the kids! Patrick Swayze is really good in this comedy, playing a “hood” similar to Johnny Castle of Dirty Dancing except Jack is appropriately funnier in this comedy and more optimistic. Swayze does a really good job with this light comedy.

I'm really not a fan of Patrick Swayze and this movie just added to the reason why. This movie lacked good acting even the young girl character was done poorly. I made myself sit thru this to make my kids happy only to hear at the end what a dumb movie this was. There are only 2 movies I have actually enjoyed Patrick in and thats Road House and Dirty Dancing. I would skip this one and choose something else.
