Real-life siblings Beau and Jeff Bridges star as the eponymous Fabulous Baker Boys. Musical prodigies both, the Bakers have long been teamed as a twin-piano act, with the less talented Frank (Beau Bridges) coasting on the skills of his brilliant younger brother, Jack (Jeff Bridges). Their career dwindling to nickel-and-dime dates in second-rate clubs, the Bakers decide that they need a female vocalist to boost their popularity. They select auditioner Susie Diamond (Michelle Pfeiffer), who in addition to being a gifted songstress is drop-dead gorgeous. The newly renovated Baker Boys act scores a success, which is inevitably threatened by Susie's growing popularity and by Jack's insistence upon pursuing an affair with the girl. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Two guys, a girl, cigarettes, atmosphere, rivalry, sex, - love? There is not one new idea in this film, but the way the Bridges brothers and Michelle Pfeiffer inhabit their roles is irresistble. This may have been the last time in the history of movies where a man lighting a woman's cigarette was worth a thousand words. Dave Grusin's music direction is perfect. Michelle Pfeiffer sings the songs herself & hauntingly. Not graphic, and all the more sexy for it.

This movie has one of the finest music sound tracks I've ever heard. The storyline incorporates lots of great piano and vocal performances from the three stars. From the credits, many of the songs were actually done by the stars themselves. Rent it just for the soundtrack, you won't be disappointed.

"An Oldie" but "Goodie" in light of Jeff Bridges' continued success in film. I had seen the film 20 years ago, but it still has a charm. I wish Beau Bridges and Michelle Pfieffer were more recognized also for their talents as displayed in the movie. Rainy Seattle comes across as a city into its musical life and that hasn't changed.

Great movie--romantic and sexy with turmoil but a mostly happy ending. Good dynamics and acting between real life brothers Beau and Jeff Bridges.--- and Michelle Pfeiffer can carry a tune surprisingly well while doing a kind of sultry Julie London act. One of the best movies done by these actors. Watch it.

This film is the best of everything. I love (and have always loved) both of the Bridges brothers..but this was a best of for both. It's a beautiful thing this movie, with a wonderful script and story, great music and shining performances by Beau, Jeff and Michelle Pfeiffer. Michelle in her famous scene of slinking across the top of the piano in her red dress whilst singing her torch songs - awesome. You will like all 3 of these characters and heart-ache along with each of them, and root for them as well because they are so real. I highly recommend.

A familiar story done beautifully. The bridges brothers are great together and who knew Michelle Pfeiffer could sing and quite well I might ad. This film is funny, touching, poignant and romantic. The Seattle scenery adds a lot and the music is beautiful and haunting and adds sooooo much to the atmosphere and tone of the whole movie. They don't make many movies like this anymore and that's a shame.
