Zombie Holocaust (1979) Reviews

Zombie Holocaust (1979)
Member Rating:
A team of scientists and explorers follow a trail of pilfered corpses to the Pacific-island domain of a hand-wringing mad doctor (Donald O'Brien) who performs bizarre, tortuous experiments on living and dead specimens in his jungle laboratory. After a drastic reduction in the size of the team thanks to the Doc and his zombie hordes, the survivors try for a desperate getaway -- but not before the cannibals capture, strip and body-paint the team's requisite buxom blonde (Alexandra Della Colli). A suitable "B"-side to Lucio Fulci's own island-themed gore epic Zombie, Francesco Martino's Dr. Butcher, M.D. (an abbreviation for "Medical Deviate" according to the lurid promotional materials) is actually a composite of two separate films. The pre-credits prologue is cobbled together from bits of an unreleased film entitled Tales That Tear Your Heart Out which were tacked on to Martino's cut, originally titled Queen of the Cannibals, by American distributor Aquarius Films. The end result is completely senseless, but fun for gore-hounds, who are treated to impromptu surgical tortures, zombie gut-munching and death-by-outboard-motor. ~ Cavett Binion, Rovi

This movie is pretty par with the other zombie movies from this era. It does have a little bit different of a story, and the really gory scenes occur during the island folks acts of cannibalism. Not as much zombie action as you would expect, but not a bad story. Oh yes, there's a decent amount of boob action too.

One of the cheap Italian trash films which attempts to cash in on the success of Lucio Fulci's Zombie and Ruggero Deodato's Cannibal Holocaust. It's a crappy film but I absolutely love the gore it dishes out. The only constellation to the film is Ian MacCullough's attempts to spice up the dry script with some good acting. It's definetly worth watching for the gore and GrindHouse feel that is brought to it.

Definitely a "B" movie. Sherry Buchanan, even with her clothes off, could not act her way out of a paper bag. Uninspired story line, and lame zombies. Rent this only if all other zombie movies are out.

My favorite part is when the guy jumps out the window and his arm flies off when it hits the ground! They go down to see him and he is still alive and his arm is still attatched!

this movie isn't that good, even if you are a fan of the genre, it's not even worth watching. there's a part where someone tosses someone out of a window, and when they do the shot of the "person" hitting the ground you can clearly tell it's a mannequin, you can even see the arm pop off when it hits the ground.
