Elvis: That's the Way It Is (1970) Reviews

Elvis: That's the Way It Is (1970)
Member Rating:
Elvis: That's the Way It Is offers a candid look at Elvis Presley at a point when he decided to permanently abandon movie roles and return triumphantly to concert gigs. It shows him strutting around Vegas with his entourage, Elvis painstakingly preparing for his stage show, Elvis relaxing backstage and trading jokes with his vocal accompanists, and, of course, Elvis before a live, loud audience. Photographed by Lucien Ballard the film was directed by Denis Sanders of Shock Treatment fame. This film was hugely reedited and reissued in 2001, with around 40% new material that replaced preexistent fan footage with musical performances and revelations; it also works in a a version of 'Love Me Tender' that finds The King strutting through the audience. That cut of the film - which received heightened critical kudos - rates 4 stars, and qualifies as more of a performance film than a documentary. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

When you watch this movie you catch the real essence of Elvis. Outstanding movie of the best entertainer of all time. I absolutely love this movie. This is Elvis at his best. I highly recommend watching it. I was very fortunate to see Elvis in concert. This movie is the next best thing.

I always enjoy seeing the slightly more candid footage of Elvis and this movie is a nice blend of performance and behind the scenes although nothing in it is personal at all. It's him, TCB just the way he did it. This picture is basically just a snapshot in time of his career and revolves soley around his MGM relationship and the Vegas performances at the International so if you're looking for more of a "life and career of Elvis" type film this isn't the one for you.

This is a great documentary that goes behind the scenes during jam sessions and rehersals prior to a concert performance, and essentially ends with a concert although the performances are from various live shows. It's really cool to see Elvis and the other guys just being themselves. I had seen this movie on VHS years ago, and the concert footage seems a bit different, but overall it's better.

Fast forward all the way to the middle. The performances were simply genius. Best performed songs - Love me tender (Best of the bunch) Patch it up I can't help falling in love with you Bad - Hound dog Suspicious minds(Good, but does not compare to the earlier versions)
