Benny's Video (1992)
Member Rating:
For 14-year-old Benny, anything recorded on videotape is inherently better and more real than what he can see with his naked eyes. He is barely noticed by his professional parents and spends most of his time either viewing wild and violent films or looking at the view outside his window through his video camera. One day, on a whim, he invites a girl to his house and coolly murders her while his video camera is rolling. Then he hides the body temporarily in his closet and goes off to a party. The calm and unexcited way his parents discuss the situation when he explains it to him, using his video film to demonstrate, makes it clear that his own psychopathology has a long background in that of his parents. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

Give him points for an interesting premise. This is one of those films about voyeurism and murder in the tradition of P.eeping Tom, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, et al. But after the murder, the pacing becomes terribly slow (and I'm a Tarkovsky fan: I enjoy slow if it's done well.) He lingers indulgently on quiet passages where the characters do nothing of any consequence. Long scenes that add nothing to the characters or story could have easily been cut. The guy needed a good editor.

by far one of haneke's best films. unlike his later films it's not commercialized and so you see a really beautiful artistic movie. makes you think.

This film had all the potential to be a good one. But fell short in every scene. Arno Frisch is as handsome and good looking as one can get. But he should be a bit more careful in which parts his manager finds for him. Arno had the distinct look of utter boredom for the duration. Arno Frisch should attain real stardom in the EU. He just needs better parts where his true acting ability would show without effort.

I thought it would be a good movie. Yeah right, its in english for the subtitles, yes but if your watching just the movie you wont understandit. But if you watch the subs, then youi wont see the movie. I watched it for about 10 mins. Turn it off sent it back in.

First of all this movie is in subtitles and it is stated that the language is English in the details. Second the description given is right but it makes the movie sound so much better than it really is. The movie is very slow and with the subtitles it makes it even slower. Obviously they movie was not what I expected and I guess it is my own fault to pick a foreign film.
