The British government's nuclear policy is in for a royal drubbing in the tense BBC TV miniseries Edge of Darkness. Bob Peck stars as London police detective Ron Craven, whose political-activist daughter is murdered right before his eyes. Meticulously following the trail of clues, Craven uncovers a dark conspiracy involving the government and the powerful American CEO of a nuclear power plant. Joe Don Baker and a young Joanne Whalley co-star. The six-part series became a cult favorite in England, where it originally aired in November and December of 1985. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Brooding, gripping in places, sometimes a little slow, this a political thriller that raises questions about nuclear power and who's running the show. It's also BBC and, hence, less formula than some current shows. I enjoyed it.

Having watched the recent Mel Gibson US remake, I wondered whether this story would stand the test of time (it's more than 10 years old) and the cultural transplantation. The answer is YES. The original is quite compelling and features some very good performances - even though the "cowboy" image of the US CIA guys is a bit funny and a caricature. Ray Winstone was treated much more kindly in his role in the US film - and his motivations were based purely on personal rather than national reasons.

Very good and keeps your interests. The music is from Eric Clapton. Joe Don Baker seems a little out of place but I have just finished the first disc.

Absolutely, totally intriguing, and brilliant portrayals. I enjoyed the new movie first and then rented this first version. Since it is a miniseries, they were able to pay more attention to the politics and the involvement of the government in the issue of the corporation and the toxicity. It was well done too, since it was very understandable. Sometimes those issues are confusing to understand in a drama, but not in this one. Clear and open, wonderfully filmed, and acted. Loved it.

Starts slow going. Gets better as it advances. Very dark for a political drama. In the end, the human drama is what stays with you. Quality watching if one can be patient.

I didn't enjoy. There was not much to the plot and I didn't like the ending--it just left you hanging.
