"Jupiter's Wife" is a tastefully filmed portrait of an intelligent and engaging homeless woman, named Maggie, who lived on the "streets" (church steps, under a bridge and in an abandoned Central Park shack) for many years with her family of dogs. It's easy to guess that Maggie is schizophrenic by the bizarre claims she makes, but by the end of this film, one wonders, oneself, what of Maggie's world is real and what false. Maggie hears romantic voices in her head, but they don't tell her what to do. Some of her outlandish stories turn out to have at least a few grains of truth. Maggie looks to be in great physical shape, keeps herself clean and enjoys real friendships with uptown, well-heeled women. Does Maggie truly understand the difference between fantasy and reality? If she does, why does she continue to live and speak the way she does? The filmmaker unravels part of Maggie's fascinating and enigmatic story to an accompanying musical score that is subtly moving.

This docudrama unravels the story behind a homeless, seeming schizophrenic woman. Very engaging story and very likeable woman. A must see if you like this type of movie.

Documentary of a mentally unstable woman living on the streets in NYC. It investigates her prior history, which seemed normal, and tries to answer why she got to where she is. But it's unrewarding. It doesn't provide any possible answers or really any insights. At the end you're left exactly where you started from: "She's just crazy." Plus the documentarian gratuitously interjects himself and his story in a few places.
