Coup De Grace is a beautiful accomplishment, thorougly capturing the intrigue and civil unrest of German Soldiers in a winter seclusion. The overall mood of darkness from the winter chill and sometimes overbearing battle ground is wonderfully captured in the cinematagraphy. The self-destructive role played by Margarethe is superb and it parrallels that growing unraveling of the Nazi German power struggle. Criterion Collection brings this film to DVD with brilliant hues of gray and is one of their best adaptations.
