The Case of the Frightened Lady (1939)
Member Rating:
A stage play by the astonishingly prolific Edgar Wallace was the source for the British melodrama Case of the Frightened Lady. The story focuses on the aristocratic Lebanon family, with Dowager Lady Lebanon (Helen Hayes) harboring a Deep Dark Secret. It seems that every generation or so, the Lebanon clan produces a homicidal maniac. The unfortunate candidate this time around seems to be Lord Willis Lebanon (Marius Goring), a fact that the Dowager Lady hopes to hide from the world. Alas, blood will tell and murder will out. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

I rented this one because the description of the plot said Lady Lebanon was played by Helen Hayes. I thought it would be cool to see one of the best actresses of her generation in a 1939 movie. What a dissappointment to find the actress is named Helen Haye. Not the same actress at all. When I sent it back I attached a note in hopes Blockbuster would correct the error. I see that in the brief review, which identifies the lead actors and director, that Helen Haye is listed correctly. But when you mouse over the photo to see the description of the plot, it still says Helen Hayes. I hope this review will prevent an unwanted viewing for another member. Regardless of who is in this film, it pretty much sucked anyway. The lady who is frightened is paranoid! She opens the film by screaming and does so with little reason. I'm sure Helen Hayes was actually glad not to be this one!
