Longtime screenwriter Mateo Gil (Open Your Eyes, The Sea Inside) returns to the director's chair for his second feature, a continuation of the Butch Cassidy saga that finds the famed outlaw embarking on one last adventure in the quest to meet his son for the very first time. Twenty years after he presumably perished in a violent gun fight, Butch (Sam Shepard) learns that he has a son in the U.S. Returning home to meet his boy won't be easy, though, because a quick-draw cowboy (Eduardo Noriega) is about to take Butch on the ride of his life. Meanwhile, an obsessive ex-railroad employee (Stephen Rea) is closing in on Butch, and preparing to pull the trigger. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Please see this movie. Yes, the original Butch Cassiday and the Sundance Kid is one of the most iconic westerns in Hollywood history. Yes, attempting a sequel could be pure heresy. But Director Mateo Gil, in selecting the great Sam Shepard to play an aging Butch Cassiday and using the massive landscape of Bolivia to do it, has created a masterpiece sequel I rank on par with Godfather Part 2 followup to Godfather Part 1. The flashback sequences of the young duo and Ella are brilliant and help us remember their unique love for each other. The action scenes in this movie are fast, brutal, and choreographed with such expertise, Sam Peckinpah surely must be smiling down. This is great western movie all by itself. You don't have to like westerns to appreciate this movie. But if you are a western purist, this is the one you've been waiting for.

Excellent movie, well acted and directed. You won't be unhappy. Sam Shepard is excellent as is Stephen Rea and Eduardo Noriega. This is a hidden gem.

Sam Shepard was the perfect choice to portray Butch Cassidy. Mateo Gil created a masterpiece. The story is most likely closer to the way it really happened. One of the best pictures that I have seen this year.
