The French classical composer François Poulenc (1899-1963) adapted his three-act 1953 opera Dialogues des Carmélites from the 1949 novel of the same name by Georges Bernanos (Diary of a Country Priest). This particular production was mounted at the Staatsoper Hamburg in 2008; in the principal roles, it stars Wolfgang Schöne (as Marquis de la Force), Alexia Voulgaridou (as Blanche de la Force), Nikolai Schukoff (as Le Chevalier de la Force) and others.
