If they couldn't take the material seriously, they shouldn't insult the composer with this sort of tongue-in-cheek silliness.

This imaginative and colorful production is a visual delight and it is also graced with good performances, making it an unadulterated pleasure.

This is a filmed stage production. There are a few quirks like noise from the scenery and the audience, but after about ten minutes, the story captures you. Eye popping costumes, great stage sets, and top talent. Some of the most exquisite voices I have ever heard are singing here. I recommend this dvd heartily to opera lovers. It is a beautiful production, the casting is perfect, each singer at their best. I will rent this one again.
