This has got to be one of my favorite movies ever. The acting is excellent and the story is so captivating. I actually prefer this movie to the actual book!

A classic British story with excellent acting, direction, sets, costumes and story that would be great for a mom and daughter weekend to be able to discuss sexism, class segregation and family dysfunction without being preachy. Don’t make the guys watch it, definitely a chick-flick.

Was somewhat disappointed, as I had seen Roman Polanski's version years and years ago, but since I don't want to support him in any way I chose this version now. Add to that the fact that I had just finished reading the book. Therefore, I was familiar with every detail missing, such as the red ribbon in her hair during the May-Day dance or the omission of the boy, Abraham, going to Rolliver's to fetch both of his drinking parents and overhearing a certain conversation. And that was only at the very beginning of the tale. There are many more liberties taken. However, if I had not had knowledge of these things I might have enjoyed the movie.
