Dark Reprieve (2008)
Member Rating:
A cunning supermodel is questioned over the series of homicides as a man and a woman struggle to break free from a mysterious prison where nothing is what it seems. Matt and Kate have awoken in a dark prison with no idea where they're at or how they got there. The one thing that they both know is that they need to escape, but there's a hungry wolf stalking the halls and a hideous monster stalking them from afar. Later, after encountering a malevolent zombie surgeon and being placed in the chopping block by an executioner with a mobile electric chair, Kate inexplicably wakes up to find that this was just the beginning of her nightmare. When Kate walks into a room with a vacuum tube for sending messages, she activates the machine and receives pictures of five people. Meanwhile, on the outside, police detectives question stunning fashion model Raquel Lake about a rash of gruesome homicides. The questions being asked to Rachel serve as a strange parallel to the events simultaneously unfolding in the prison, and when she is shown a series of photographs featuring five dead people things quickly start to get strange. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

This is a movie I had never heard of and decided to give it a chance. Ok I was a sucker for the cover art, I admit it. Dark Reprieve is unique in that it totally relies on a concept, it does not rely on traditional horror elements like gore, blood, or nudity. I actually found that some what refreshing. The concept and idea for this movie is great! I could see a Hollywood studio re-making this movie in five-to-ten years. The cinematography was nice, this is a not a cheap crap digital video horror movie. They actually used film and a tri-pod!! Wow what a concept!! On the negative side the actors are weak much of the time, passable, but weak. Oh well what can you expect in these types of movies? There are also a few cheese ball elements here and there. And it does lag at times. But I really loved the ending, so I am recommending this one.
