Excellent movie to justly root for the social outcast. Winona Ryder's character demonstrated that even within a small time town, there is always room to annoint someone 'less then'. It's a classic case of one individual (today's young woman?) bucking the gravitational pull of small town society that attempt to make her appear a 'space case', but instead reveals a beautiful young woman who see's much more than they appear to know, or want to know, of themselves. This story is not of one seeking acceptance from others, but rather finding reason to accept others. I think a better title could have been made to reflect the main characters' journey.

If you are feeling nostalgic for big hair, this is a must see. However, Winona Ryder really over-acts the whole thing and it gets a bit annoying. I certainly wouldn't add this to my collection of owned DVDs, but it was ok to watch.

This movie may not be for everybody, its not a deep thinker. It has a great sound track and a heart warming message. It is, what it is....
