I think the people who shun this film are narrowminded. Sure it's an older movie with older effects...yes, it is an italian horror film so the dubbing is a bit off. None of this should take away the absolute atmosphere of a truly original film. The lighting is some of the greatest in movie history. The musical score by goblin was some of the most frightening and creepy I have ever heard. It was scary in the way that films used to scare people. I think it's great. I recomend it highly.

Gorgeous set and fantastic use of color! Dated special effects but this does not detract from the film at all. Worth viewing!

Don't worry about the other goofball reviews you have read about this movie. Argento is legendary and this movie is sweeeet. I also am a fan of the late Joan Bennett (of Dark Shadows fame), her presence as Madame Blanc gives this witch-slasher-shocker a Gothic feel I absolutely loved. And for those who don't know it, a hilarious funfact about the film is that Argento cast a 90 year old ex prostitute as the Directoress!
