Christmas Do-Over (2006)
Member Rating:
A ne'er do well father and ex-husband who always raced his way through the holidays is forced to relive Christmas Day time and again until he gets it right in this family oriented fantasy comedy starring Jay Mohr. It's Christmas time once again, and as usual Kevin (Moore) is scrambling to get his son Ben a last minute gift before stopping by his ex-wife Jill's house for a quick swig of eggnog. Ben can't stand Jill's impossibly perfect new boyfriend, and the prospect of spending the entire evening with his former inlaws is nearly too painful to ponder. But this Christmas things are going to be different, because this Christmas might just last forever. At first Kevin resists the curious development by simply reverting to his childish ways, though he is about to find out that sometimes in order to build a better future one must finally make amends with the past. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Our family, with two young teens, enjoyed Christmas Do-Over. The acting is fair for the genre, the humor is tense and steady, the scenery is festive, and the story is engaging, although, it is an obvious spinoff of Groundhog Day (1993). Jay Mohr often plays self-assured, virtueless, loudmouths. Voila! He's perfect for this role as Kevin. My wife and I appreciate dysfunctional family movies (The Ref, Home For The Holidays) so we got a kick out of the interactions Kevin has with his in-laws as congeniality degrades over time. At first Kevin is only there for his son whose pure-hearted wish catalyzed the miracle that transfixed Kevin into having to endure endless days of Christmess with himself and his mistakes. Kevin eventually gets righteous evolving back toward his ex-wife but first he gets much worse. The brawl with a Santa and a nativity Joseph, who operate exhibits that aggressively compete with Kevin's father-in-law's at the county fair, was FUNNY NY-NY NY-NY!!!
