This movie was really great. It's sad in places as they reflect on their years in a consecration camp in the early 40's. The movie closes on a happier note.

Yet another quietly powerful film from Canada. Melanie, a human rights activist, is also a victim of the Holocaust. She makes contact with Jakob and Christopher, who were prisoners with her at the Drancy concentration camp in France. They arrive at her Quebec home, which she shares with David, her husband; Benjamin, her son; and Timmy, her grandson. What gradually unfolds for this group during a few days moved me deeply. Seeing such greats as Susan Sarandon, Max von Sydow, Christopher Plummer, and Gabriel Byrne in one cast enthralled me!

This film was a haunting and beautiful story with very definitive characterizations.. the tremendous misemotion of the early years are well dramatized by the children of the past and in present time redramatized by them as adults..very well executed..and what a sterling cast..Sarandon, Plummer and Von Sydow with a memorable supporting cast especially the son and his son, the little boy all contribute to this definitive drama. 31/2 stars!
