The one-star reviewers were obviously expecting a different type of movie. This is not a destination-driven road trip movie. The story is much like the main character, it wanders around and sees what happens. I liked this movie for the vibrant cinematography, the excellent supporting cast, and the gentle romantic story, despite the fact that "nothing much happens." A lot of Wong Kar-Wai's movies are like this. I'm not sure why Norah Jones was cast in the lead--I'm a big fan of her music but her acting is not on par with the rest of the cast. Her emotional range is limited and she seems more of an observer than the main character; maybe this was intentional.

I felt it was an interesting take on the loss&discovery of love..not the typical love story.I felt like the actors really carried the movie as it was so simplistic. They really developed their characters. The camera shots are interesting&set the pace&feel for the movie.Very artistic in nature. It's a bit abstract which I like, others may not.I think Jones brings something pure to the role. The limited emotional expression/observant,I think may have been fully intentional. Her character is written in a way that she was observing trying to figure out life/love/heartbreak/etc...she was viewing others to develop her own concept of becoming/heal. We frequently gain ground in our own story....by observing (or reading about) others..it broadens our insight/we grow.

Movie was good. I recommend seeing it. I am a Natalie Portman fan and she does a great job playing the hip chick in this movie.
