Four friends looking for a good time are lured into a strange and dangerous netherworld in this wildly offbeat horror film from France. It's Christmas Eve, and twentysomethings Bart (Olivier Barthelemy), Ladj (Ladj Ly), Thai (Nico Le Phat Tan), and Yasmine (Leila Bekhti) are bored and looking for fun. They end up at a rowdy dance club where, after Bart gets into a fight, they meet Eve (Roxane Mesquida), a sexy girl who seems to take a liking to the three guys. Eve invites the foursome to come back to her place in the country; the guys are more than game, and Yasmine tags along for the ride. Eve's house is a ramshackle mansion overflowing with broken plastic dolls and looked after by Joseph (Vincent Cassel), a cheerful but subnormal handyman whose pregnant wife spends most of her time upstairs. Before long, some of Eve's friends from town come by, and while the women are sexually accommodating, Yasmine soon gets the feeling something is wrong, and in time the guys reach the same conclusion. Joseph's topics of conversation become downright creepy as he talks in great detail about incest and Satanism with his guests, and Christmas Day devolves into an orgy of violence and perversity. Sheitan received its North American premiere at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Its getting a few marginal reviews because its french , the overall look isnt completely ultra low budget and theres an "edgy" vibe to it which Im sure will cause some people to label it a "brilliant" cult film. It starts off at a club with the usual 90's grungy look and casting with an emphasis on "diversity" and raunchy behavior to make it seem "real" and "hip". These drunk and raunchy clubgoers pick up some girls and end up at a large rural farmhouse filled with unfriendly and weird inhabitants. The rest of it is filled with raunchy disgusting behavior , virtually no plot -- a confusing mess. However there are some scenes filled with sexual content and violence and attempts at horror all mushed together in a incoherent mess that tries to be provocative. The characters are completely disgusting and uninteresting and the incoherent plot doesnt help.

Don't listen to anyone about this film being bad. If you like "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" and overall films about incestual crazed murder and madness then this really is your film. This movie is filmed well with a good budget and most importantly stars Vincent Cassel who actually plays two roles in the film. Vincent Cassel was great in "Brotherhood of the Wolf" which I also recommend. Sheitan is a very cerebral film causing the watcher a great deal of anxiety deciding what they might do in each situation. A great film, very disturbing in a very realistic way, and an emotional roller coaster. You will feel messed up after watching it though but well worth it.

Here's my girlfriend's review, "That was disgusting, and I don't know why." There's lots of creepy tension, a few exceptionally strange characters, and a few uniquely disturbing scenes a low budget horror fan may appreciate. Then you *finally* get to the part of the movie where the tension turns to some violent action, but you still don't know why. Then the moment you were waiting for comes (or so you think) when everything is supposed to be explained. Instead you end up cursing the movie, its writer, director, and the gross guy in it. The movie is similar in disturbing humor and bestial, trans-gender, homo-erotic horror to a combination of "Pink Flamingos", "Eraserhead", and "Calvaire", but those movies have a story. This movie has no story. "Calvaire" is also French and very similar, but it's not as goofy, it's much more horrific, it has a story, and it's a better movie. Rent that instead.
