These videos from the 70s and 80s have a dated look, but the sound, remastered in DTS, is excellent. Bernstein's approach to Mahler is passionate and spontaneous. The Eighth Symphony here is overwhelming. Performed in Vienna with the Vienna Philharmonic, two choruses, the Vienna Boys Choir, eight vocal soloists, pipe organ, and an extra brass section in the balcony, it's hard to imagine something so complex and wonderful coming from a human mind and a sound so sublime coming from mere voices and instruments. These works are the at the highest reaches of the musical mind, and the performances are up to the challenge in every way.

It would not play sound on my computer or my friend's DVD player. It did work on my DVD player. I think it has some strange sound format for some DVD players.
